In
1967, the concept of a modern, customer-oriented produce company was
born with the opening of Progressive Produce. Taking the whole potato
production process — wholesaling, packing, refrigeration, transportation
and sales — under one roof was just the first in a long line of
innovations that have now become industry standards.
The company grew
rapidly and today has expanded into an 110,000 square foot security-controlled
warehouse that anchors the operation in Los Angeles, with a smaller
facility in Edison, California. In addition to its own drivers, Progressive’s
trucking subsidiary has access to over 70 drivers with refrigerated
trailers, making superior service not just a possibility, but a reality.
On a parallel path,
Jones Produce of Quincy, Washington, a multi generational diversified
farming operation located in the heart of the Columbia Basin, has a
success story of their own. For over 50 years, Jones has specialized
in potatoes and onions, in addition to tree fruits, mint and cereal
grains, and is always seeking innovative ways to bring the finest produce
from the fertile lands of Washington State to consumers’ tables
across America.
Having worked together
extensively over the years, the two organizations recognized the value
of combining their efforts and in May 2004 announced the merger of their
respective sales organizations into one national sales team. Progressive
Marketing Group (PMG) was formed. Its mission: to market potatoes, onions,
and other produce currently grown and marketed separately by Jones and
Progressive, and provide valued-added benefits to customers through
marketing and unmatched service.
Today, PMG is leading
the category with packaging and product innovation designed to create attention
and increase sales. By offering value-added convenience products such as
our MicroBaker® Russets and Yams, Progressive's
partners have increased sales significantly. Plus our new gourmet and specialty
potato varieties, coupled with new eye-catching consumer-friendly packaging
across our product line has generated increased interest…and sales.
And we're not done yet. Additional MicroBaker® products
and more are coming soon.
